How to Join

Any current DePaul University student can join SPJ/ONA DePaul, the student chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists and Online News Association. Here’s how:

1) Required: Fill out the Membership Form and email the form to Chapter Adviser Amy Merrick at amerric1@depaul.edu and/or Chapter President Claire Malon at amalon@depaul.edu. Please use the subject line “SPJ/ONA New Member Form.”

2) Required: Go to the SPJ website to pay your national SPJ dues ($37.50 a year, or $100 for a four-year membership), plus a $5 annual membership fee for SPJ DePaul.

On the SPJ website, choose a student membership for one year or four years.

Under “Local Chapter Dues,” check the box next to “I wish to pay local chapter dues to…” In the first box, type “5” for one year or “20” for four years. In the second box, type “DePaul University.” We use this money for chapter events and programming.

3) Optional: SPJ/ONA DePaul members can join the Online News Association for $25 a year. Go here.

About two weeks after you join online, you’ll receive a national membership card in the mail.

Please send your preferred email and the membership number on your card to Amy Merrick at amerric1@depaul.edu.
