Reilley Named SPJ National Outstanding Campus Adviser

SPJ DePaul adviser and faculty member Mike Reilley received the SPJ David Eschelman Outstanding Campus Adviser Award at the SPJ Excellence in Journalism conference in Anaheim in August.

Reilley, a faculty member who teaches online journalism, founded the chapter in 2010. The chapter, which has grown to 73 students, was named the national chapter of the year and Region 5 (Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky) chapter of the year in 2011.

The Outstanding Campus Chapter Adviser Award, initiated in 1978, is presented annually to a person who has made an exceptional contribution to the campus chapter for which he or she serves as SPJ adviser. In 1993, the SPJ board voted to change the award name to the David Eshelman Outstanding Campus Adviser Award in order to honor Eshelman, a longtime member of the Society and Board “Parliamentarian,” who was killed in 1993.
