SPJ DePaul Executive Board members Ali Trumbull, Ryann Rumbaugh and Monica Carter volunteered at the “Concert for Carlos”, a tribute concert and fundraiser for the late Carlos Hernandez Gomez, a well-known Chicago journalist and DePaul alum.
The July 21 event, held at Uncle Fatty’s Rum Resort in Lakeview, featured music from several local acts, including The Gear, a band Gomez used to play in. More than 80 friends, family and fellow journalists attended the event.
SPJ DePaul volunteers helped with staffing the front door, selling raffle tickets, organizing the silent auction and assisting Randi Bellisomo, Carlos’ widow and organizer of the event.
Proceeds will benefit The Carlos Hernandez Award in Journalism at DePaul University, DePaul University’s Political Science Department Carlos Hernandez Gomez Memorial Forum on Policy and Public Service and Life Matters Media.
